Where do we start?
Where do we start? At the beginning I guess. A few years ago, I was reading the paper and I came across an article about a family on the road in a caravan, or for other nationalities, a trailer. They were a mum, dad and two children touring the country and building memories together after selling up for life on the road. They were both teachers who had full time jobs to pay the mortgage on a house that was empty all day. They paid finance on cars to get to the jobs so they could pay the mortgage on a house that was empty all day. They paid other people to care for their children before and after school, as they were already on the road, in their financed cars, commuting to the jobs, to pay the mortgage on a house that was empty all day. It really struck a chord with me.
We bought a trailer tent in 2010 and loved it. We bought it in the autumn ( fall ) from eBay after an awful holiday in Benidorm and because of the time of year, we got it for a really good price, just £650 ( $800US). In fact, it was such a whim that we didn’t even have a towbar on the car at this point and my mate had to come and pick it up with me using his car. We got chatting with the seller when we arrived and it turned out he was trading up to a folding camper, the same model that my mate had, and he let us go on our way having given him just £600. But after what seemed like a downpour of biblical proportions each time we had to pack it away, we soon traded up to our first caravan. It was a 2004 Adria with the door on the wrong side ( for us Brits ) and we never looked back. We were lucky to get a brand new Adria in 2013 and we were never happier than when we were away in our own little home from home. We have travelled the country from Scotland to the south coast, crossed the English Channel to Europe, had family gatherings and music festival escapades. Each time we came home, I was increasingly aware that I was happier living with less in our little house on wheels.
